Dance Twirl n’ Motion

What is Baton Twirling? Twirling combines dance, agility, coordination, flexibility, gymnastics, and many more factors while manipulating a single or multiple batons. This discipline requires the simultaneous blending of these fundamental characteristics, utilizing time and space to display both technical merit and artistic expression. It is a great sport for anyone interested in learning coordination, team work, flexibility, showmanship, and presentation skills.

Fall Registration starts August 1, 2024

Twirling classes are held weekly for one hour. Cost is $13.00 per class. Locations include Selmer, Bolivar and Middleton, Tennessee. Class times and days will be determined after registration. Ages 2-16 Registration fee at sign up $35.00.

What to expect

Teams will be formed based on age and ability. Students will learn the fundamentals of twirling, strut, and routines that include ballet, jazz, modern dance and some gymnastics.

Teams will perform in local parades, community events, and in a yearly recital.

I grew up in Texas where still today twirling is a popular art form. I started twirling at age 4. I took eight years of dance to include tap, jazz, beginner ballet, gymnastics and twirling from Holli Barron Dance Studio in Tyler, Texas; where I also became a student teacher and took advanced dance courses through Dance Teachers of America. I also took 2 additional years of private lessons in advanced twirling. I performed as a majorette in high school for four years as well as head majorette and drum major for Winona High School Band. I performed at multiple competitions and in the State of Texas UIL and Miss Texas Twirl competitions. I went on to teach twirling in several dance studios and was a dance and cheer coach for several years.
